I placed on lay away a gold ladies rolex watch #403 and wire transfer $1,000 to Melrose Jewelers in April of last year. Have been unable to contact the company.

Sometime in April of 2013 I placed on lay away a ladies sliver dial gold Rolex watch $403. I was instructed by a gentlemen with the first name Jon (his last name could have been Melrose) to wire transfer into their account $1,000, which I did. Since then I have sent them e-mail and tried calling the number posted on their website without success. I was told by the company that the only way I could pay was by wire transfer directly into their account even though I wanted to pay by credit card. I have tried repeatedly to get in touch with the company.

A quick internet search on "Melrose Jewelers" shows a number of complaints, and a lawsuit where Rolex sued them for counterfeiting. It looks like you may be out of luck.

Two lessons to be learned: 1) Google these companies before sending them money.

2) If a company only accepts wire transfers / Western Union / cashiers check, look elsewhere.

Purchasing by credit card gives you a lot of protection.

Rolex Submariner

Melrose supplied me with a Rolex Submariner which they stated and guaranteed was completely original in every respect. When I came to part exchange it less than a year later for a new Submariner last month, I was told that the dial was after market and to replace it with an original dial would cost around $1,500. The amount of part exchange originally offered was reduced accordingly. When I tried to contact Sunny from Melrose, not surprisingly, he did not answer. I have also this morning tried to access their website but with no success. I hope they have gone out of business

Class Action Lawsuit

Same thing happened to me--they sold me a fake watch, which I got appraised. The appraisers verified that it was fake. I told Melrose to verify that it was all real. They never said it was. This is all bs from crooks. Now they're getting sued by Rolex for this, but only for trademark infringement. This doesn't help consumers. Email me at suemelrosejewelers@***.com with your name if they defrauded you too. I'm a lawyer in California where they're located, and I want to file a class action lawsuit against them for their mass fraud. Get some money back from these crooks.

I purchased a diamond rolex presidential womens about 2 yrs ago, have their paperwork from them , but have not had it checked out. I will do asap, if it comes out bad, would definitely want to be added to the lawsuit. Sincerely, Evelyn

Guest

Please let me know. I bought one Rolex and when I took it to my jeweler the components were over 18 years old. I have all the paperwork to prove it.

I tried to locate them and they disappear.

I will be more than happy to be part of the class actions against those bandits.

Guest

I hope its not too late??

Guest

I just won one lawsuit against them. You can go to the Los Angeles Superior Court website.

Andrea Ahw

If you were a lawyer you would know the difference between single and class action law suit. And if you were a lawyer you could afford a real Rolex and would know how to tell the difference.

I wonder exactly how your appraiser did the appraisal?

The ONLY way to tell a fake is to take the back off, and unless a JEWELER knows what he is doing he will cause all the springs and guts to pop out.

I laughed at that.

Melrose Jewelers
The company are crooks. They sell 10kt counterfeit bands. I paid 13,000 for a Presidential Ladies Rolex only to take it to my jeweler and have him tell me it was not 18kt like promised, also he could clearly tell it was not a authentic Rolex band. Very disappointing. I had read bad reviews before purchasing but the manager simply told me that you can not please everybody. The price was too good to be true for a reason. When I opened the box upon receiving it in the mail it was so cheap it fell apart which was a immediate red flag for luxury goods. Buyer beware-but if like me you cannot resist and do purchase please take it to your local jeweler within the 3 day return period. Lastly do not be fooled by the high appraisal sent with the watch it is done inhouse

They are *** artists

I spent 10k on a rolex from them a year later took it to be cleaned to find out not only was the rolex components over 20 years old but my 18k gold braclet was nickel not an ounce of gold. When I called them they said they buy them from people and it must have slipped through their testing. They wanted me to send mine back but why would I trust them. They put me through the ringer of getting it tested and sending them results gues they thought I would give up. I was going to report them and they agreed to send me a new braclet. I had it tested electronically and it was 16.5k which I guess I should be greatful that it was at least gold. They are by far the biggest scam artists I ever dealt with. My 2 watch stops regularly but what can I expect from a 20 something year old watch. My lesson learned when ita too good to be true it usually is. And don't trust the scratch test they have ways of making it pass even if its not gold

You can buy alloy from Stuller. Put 25% alloy mix with 75% 24K gold; there...

you got the 18K. In Asia's market, you can come around a lot of 17.5K, because the guy who's making the gold, save off some for his pocket. It had happen so often. As a gemologist and jeweler, I had came across all kind of karat.

It is no surprise with 16.5K. Just put more alloy and less gold...

you got some saving for your poor kid at home, your boss and the customer became the victim. C'est la vie!

Andrea Ahw

There is no 16.5k gold. Whoever tested it for you is an ***. And gold as you wear it in any karat less than 24 is made up of alloy, which is a combination of gold, and nickel along with a lot of other metals.

Ripped Off

I purchased a Rolex Datejust watch for my wife fron Melrose Jewellers online. Watch never kept time but that never bothered her as it was only worn on special occasions and she was in love with the appearance. The diamond bezel fell off along with the glass.Brought it to a Rolex dealer who said it was totally worthless, diamond bezel was stuck on and was never meant for this model, strap was fake, but the real horror was when he opened it;it contained parts from a number of obsolete and discontinued models, some dating back to 1962! Melrose had initially agreed to send a FedEx Courier to collect the watch for repair, but stopped returning my emails and chose to ignore me. How can these people continue to operate? They should be jailed for continually ripping people off

Melrose Jewelers

I was considering a purchase of a Rolex from Melrose Jewelers. I had a question about the "Italian bracelet" so I received a call from their representative. This person told me that a Rolex band would only last five or six years so they replaced them with a new bracelet made in Italy. This person said that the Italian bracelets were the best you could buy. My wife has a Rolex and has had it for twenty years with no problems with the bracelet. I have several friends who have them with no problems. So, this comment was enough to make me wonder if Melrose is a bogus operation. The red flags came up and I did not get burnt.

LOL! That's funny.

Five or six years?? I called them and asked when the watches were made and they told me they're from the 70s/80s so I guess their watches have been through 5 or 6 bands by now.

Melrose Rolex Rip Off

I bought a refurbished Rolex watch from Melrose Jewelers. The crystal fell off after a couple of weeks.

I sent it back and they "fixed it. This happened gain two more times, and it kept falling off. I finally had to pay a comepntent Rolex Jeweler to inspect. They said the crystal was not a rolex product and that the part that hold the crystal was warped.

I paid over $1,000.00 to put the correct Rolex crystal and to fix the watch.

This was never paid back to me by Melrose. Melrose is a rip off in my opinion.

Thank goodness I came across this forum. As Marketing Director, I would be responsible for the placing false advertisement. I will no longer pursue employment with a company that has no business ethics / morals.

Thank you eveyone for your honesty. I hope you all receive refunds for the fake products that you purchased.

Sunny Kamboj and his team of ripoff artists in rolex watch deals have been doing it for years. No wonder he has no store front or any physical address.

They hide behind the internet. Let the consumer complaints coming.

I paid $12,000 for a rolex president and the inside of the rolex are all by products of INDIA..

I only found out when i had to service the watch at Ben Bridge. Small Claims court is due...I inform you of the matter.

Be careful while dealing with these people …. They are dishonest

Be careful while dealing with these people …. They are dishonest. I can say confidently, before purchase, they are very friendly. However once you placed your order, they don't bother to respond to your inquires. They are dishonest and the worse sellers I have ever dealt with. Simply, the sold to me a watch full of deficiencies and fake components. When approached them to claim my money – according to their warrantee – they didn't respond. I had no choice but to file a complaint against them. Hope it works! Again, be careful while dealing with these people … they are dishonest.

To Melrose Jewelers, Melrose Diamonds, and Melrose.com Customers:

It should be brought to your attention that Melrose Jewelers (aka Melrose Diamonds and Melrose.com) is grossly misrepresenting the gold content of their Two Tone and President bands. Melrose Jewelers is also grossly misrepresenting the true authenticity of their watches.

Melrose Jewelers’ Two Tone Datejust bands which are advertised as 18k yellow gold have been found to only be 9k yellow gold. In many cases, they have been found to be 9k yellow gold PLATED.

President bands which are advertised as solid 18k yellow gold have also been found to range between 8k-14k gold.

White gold bands are typically 8k and may in fact be plated. Yellow Gold President bands test between 10k and 14k depending on the style.

In short, none of the bands advertised by Melrose as 18k gold are actually 18k gold.

Melrose will use the excuse that the standard gold acid test is not reliable. In reality, the standard gold acid test is the same test used by professional jewelers around the world and is one of the most reliable methods of testing gold available.

They will also claim the gold content is not thick enough to accurately test. 18k yellow gold, will always test as 18k yellow gold, regardless of the thickness. The thickness of the gold has nothing to do with the density of the metal.

In short, do not be fooled by their lies. Speak to a jeweler for their professional opinion on this matter.

If you own a Melrose Jewelers President, Datejust President, or two tone Datejust watch, I suggest you have the gold content tested by an independent jeweler. Any jeweler or gold buying location can help determine the correct karat count of the gold in your band. Do not be fooled by stampings which indicate 18k gold; these stampings can be done after the band has been manufactured. Jewelers and Gold buyers will usually conduct this test for free if you express an interest in selling your watch or scraps.

You may wonder how this affects you?

It is a simple fact that 9k, 10k, and 14k yellow gold will tarnish much faster than 18k yellow gold. The acids and oils from your skin will severely tarnish cheap gold bands and wear off plating. This is why jewelry and watches are typically made with 18k yellow gold.

Also, the future resale value of your watch is highly affected by inaccurate information and cheap aftermarket products, like those used by Melrose. You can expect your timepiece to sell for less than half the original purchase price if you attempt to sell it to a serious jeweler or watchmaker. It will also not retain nor increase in value, like a Rolex should.

If you find that you have been defrauded by Melrose, I suggest contacting them immediately and demanding a refund. You may also contact your credit card company or payment processor (i.e. Paypal) directly and demand your money back on the grounds of the item being grossly misrepresented. This can typically be done up to a year after the date of original purchase and can be done easily by filing a dispute via the phone or even online.

For customers who are unable to obtain a refund through a payment processor, it is wise to contact the BBB and file a claim. There are also various websites where one can post their grievances with Melrose. For Ebay customers, it is best to contact Ebay and note this on their feedback.

While it may be easy to disregard these claims, it is worth it to take the time to test your band. I have nothing to gain by making these claims and do not wish to redirect you to another website nor solicit any kind of money. As a former Melrose employee, I am simply doing what I feel is right.

It is also worth noting that Melrose uses so many aftermarket parts in the restoration of their watches that these watches can NEVER again be considered true Rolex watches. Also, many aftermarket parts can be found in the movement, despite their claims, and basically everything besides the casing and most of the movement is indeed aftermarket. While the watch may look nice, it is an overpriced half Rolex which has ZERO of the value of a true Rolex watch.

Good Luck!

Melrose Jewelers - recommend

I was pleased with Melrose. I bought a watch for my daughter as a graduation present, but it didn't keep time at all. I told them, they asked me to wind it a certain way, I did, and monitored the time for about ten days, but it still didn't keep time. I contacted them again, advised the CSR of the problem, and they agreed to replace it. We received the watch in a timely manner, and it has since been working well. No problems with Melrose. The program tells me to type 100 words minimum, but i have nothing more to say so here's some fluff.

Good Luck!

Former Melrose Jewelers Employee
